Kosawa Brewery Company

Yamagata

The company was founded in 1836 (Tenpō 7) in Sagae, Yamagata Prefecture, beginning with the trade of safflowers and sake brewing. Located in the Yamagata Basin—surrounded by Mount Zao to the east and sacred Mount Gassan to the west—the area is known for its deep snow in winter and hot summers, making it ideal for rice cultivation and sake production. Historically, it has been home to many sake breweries. Since its founding, the brewery has prioritized quality above all else. No sugar or additives are used, and particular effort is devoted to crafting junmai and ginjo sake. The result is a sake with a rich flavor, a light aroma, and a soft, smooth texture.
