Imai Brewery Company
Gunma
The brewery was founded in 1866, during the final years of the Edo period.
Located in the northwestern part of Ota City in eastern Gunma Prefecture, it transitioned to producing only junmai sake in 2004. The brewery has remained committed to handmade, quality-focused sake brewing.
In 2016, the buildings of Imai Shuzoten were registered as Tangible Cultural Properties by the Japanese government. They were recognized for preserving the historical architecture and sake-making traditions, contributing to the cultural landscape of the region.
Currently, Imai Shuzoten collaborates with Bihou Shurui, another brewery in Gunma Prefecture, to continue its production.
The brand name Joshū Kazemakase ("Joshū Carried by the Wind") was inspired by the image of dandelions blooming brightly in spring, their seeds carried by the wind to take root and bloom again in new places. The name reflects the hope that this sake will spread far and wide and be cherished by many for years to come.
