Gekkeikan Brewery Company
Kyoto
Founded in 1637, this brewery is the oldest in Kyoto's historic Fushimi district. Since the Meiji era, it has rapidly expanded its presence nationwide and, alongside Hakutsuru in Nada, became one of the largest sake producers in Japan.
It was the first sake brewery in the country to establish its research laboratory, introducing science and technology into the brewing process. This brought innovation to sake production and helped fuel the company’s growth.
Today, under the corporate philosophy of “Pursuing health, applying science to sake, and creating delight,” the brewery continues to produce high-quality sake, from premium labels to everyday offerings. With a strong focus on global markets, it actively promotes sake culture both in Japan and around the world.
