Tanabe Takeshita Brewery is a newly established sake brewery that began in June 2022, taking over the operations of the former Takeshita Honten, which had no successor. In November, they welcomed a rising star in the world of sake brewing, Toji Hamazaki, and officially began production. Their concept centers on crafting “fruity and exceptionally fresh sake,” aiming for a clear, vibrant flavor reminiscent of the sparkling summer seas of the San’in region. Their first release came in January 2023 with Okuizumo Maewataya: Trial Brew. For the new toji, it was his first experience working with the local land, water, and climate—truly a trial in every sense. Building on that experience, they refined their brewing methods and reintroduced the sake under the Rihachi brand the following year.
