Founded in 1874 in Kakogawa City, Hyogo Prefecture, Okada Honke is the sole remaining sake brewery in the area, preserving over a century of sake-making heritage. While there were once 14 breweries in Kakogawa during the 1960s, Okada Honke now carries the torch as the city’s last standing sake maker. In 2010, they revived their original label Seiten, and in 2020, earned the Excellence Award in the Warm Sake category at the Osaka Regional Sake Appraisal, as well as recognition at the National New Sake Competition—testaments to their meticulous craftsmanship. Their sake is brewed exclusively with local ingredients: pure spring water from Kakogawa and 100% Hyogo-grown sake rice. With just three people— the toji (master brewer), brewery owner, and a dedicated kurabito (brewer)—Okada Honke proudly produces truly local sake that reflects the spirit of Kakogawa.
