Fukunotomo Brewery Company
Akita
Fukunotomo Brewery was founded in 1913 (Taisho 2). Its name was created by taking one character each from the founder Shuichi Fukuda and the first brewmaster Tomogoro Takahashi. Located in the fertile Senboku Plain of southern Akita Prefecture—an area renowned for rice cultivation—the brewery has maintained its commitment to quality sake making using locally grown rice and soft underground water sourced from the Omono River system.
Akita is known throughout Japan for its premium sake rice. The brewery draws soft, mineral-rich spring water from underground for every step of the brewing process. The owner actively participates in the brewing, pursuing the ideal sake. With Akita’s signature long, low-temperature fermentation and traditional methods, each bottle is carefully crafted with dedication. The result is sake that may not be flashy, but carries a refined, dignified character—much like the famed beauty of Akita itself.
