In 1912, the Mochizuki family, who were originally engaged in forestry and sericulture in the mountains far north of their current location, founded the brewery. When they decided to start brewing sake, they sought a place with excellent water quality and eventually established their brewery at its present location. The brewery took its name, "Kanzawagawa," from the water source they use for brewing.
