Hakushika's Tanuki is named after the Japanese "raccoon dog" (tanuki), a beloved character in traditional Japanese culture. Since olden days, the tanuki has been a comical symbol often used at shops and restaurants where sake is sold and most commonly displayed in the form of a small ceramic statue. In Nishinomiya a legend from ages past claims that if a couple of tanuki mythical creatures take up residence in the brewery, incredibly delicious sake can be brewed. Excellent for matching with such popular Japanese favorites as sushi, teriyaki and tempura. Also excellent with yakitori grilled chicken, ramen, vegetable stir-fry, Asian noodles and spring rolls.
