Raifuku Brewery was founded in 1716 (Kyōhō 1) by merchants from Ōmi, drawn to the pure waters at the foot of Mount Tsukuba. The name "来福(Raifuku)" comes from the haiku: "福や来む　笑う上戸の　門の松(Fuku ya komu, warau jōgo no, mon no matsu)" ("Good fortune will come to the home of those who welcome it with laughter.")
