Senmatsushima Brewery Company

Senmatsushima Brewery Company

Miyagi

The company was founded in 1660 (Manji 3) at its current location. Over the subsequent 340 years, we have continued our operations thanks to the enduring patronage of our valued customers. The brand name "Chimatsushima" originates from "Oshima," an island considered the epitome and centerpiece of the scenic Matsushima area; its original name is "Chimatsushima." Numerous monuments inscribed with the characters for "Chimatsushima" can be found, and our sixth-generation head, Jinzaemon Sugawara, chose this name for our sake. The flavor evokes the rigorous training of ancient times—using Sasanishiki rice, it offers a smooth, crisp finish without any overpowering characteristics.
