Taga Brewery Company

Taga Brewery Company

Shiga

This esteemed brewery is located near Taga Taisha, the most prominent shrine in Shiga Prefecture, and is well-loved by visitors for its signature sake, Taga. With a history spanning over 300 years, the brewery has earned an impressive 14 gold medals at the National New Sake Appraisal, a testament to its exceptional craftsmanship and quality. The brewery uses spring water from the nearby Seri River, rich in minerals from the Suzuka mountain range. This hard water enhances yeast activity, resulting in a sake that is full-bodied and flavorful. Situated in Ōmi, a renowned rice-growing region, the brewery is also committed to local sourcing. Its junmai sake Taga Aki no Uta, made with the locally grown rice variety Aki no Uta, won a gold medal at the “Sake That Tastes Great in a Wine Glass Awards 2022.” It has also been selected as an official souvenir for Shiga’s Japan Heritage by the Agency for Cultural Affairs.
