This sake’s deliciousness comes from three key elements: 1. A bold, untamed yet rich namazake (unpasteurized sake), 2. A genshu (undiluted sake) packed with deep umami, 3. And a sealed aluminum can that locks in freshness. Made with 100% carefully selected Niigata-grown rice, this Junmai Nama Genshu is neither pasteurized nor diluted after pressing. The sake is bottled as-is to capture the essence of its freshly brewed character. It offers the pure, robust flavor of rice with vibrant acidity and a crisp finish. With its bold umami and full-bodied richness, this sake pairs exceptionally well with Chinese cuisine.

Kikusui Brewery Company (Kikusui)

Niigata

Kikusui Brewery Company is a long-established sake brewery founded in 1881 in Shibata City, Niigata Prefecture. It began when the founder, Setsugorō Takazawa, established a brewery in the area. For over 140 years, the company has been engaged in the production and sale of Japanese sake. Its flagship products include Funaguchi Kikusui Ichiban Shibori and Kikusui no Karakuchi. In particular, Funaguchi Kikusui Ichiban Shibori is known as Japan’s first unpasteurized, undiluted sake (nama genshu) and currently accounts for about one-third of the company’s total sales. Kikusui develops products that respond to changing consumer preferences over time. While remaining deeply rooted in its local community, it also actively expands its presence overseas. The company has overcome hardships such as war and two major floods, continuing to pursue sake brewing that enriches everyday life.
