"Gunma-chan" is the official mascot of Gunma Prefecture. At our favorite ski lodge in Gunma, this was the go-to water cup, so we tracked down the sake behind it and gave it a try. Turns out, it was pretty good! Reaching the brewery, however, was a bit of an adventure—after all, it's the oldest in Gunma. This sake is best enjoyed after a long day of skiing. Since Gunma is landlocked, the local cuisine leans towards hearty game meats and stews. For an authentic experience, try making Chanko Nabe, a rich sumo-style hot pot that will warm you from the inside out. And yes, this sake is great served warm!
