Oze National Park spans four prefectures—Gunma, Fukushima, Tochigi, and Niigata—and is home to the iconic Oze Marshland, where a wooden boardwalk guides travelers through pristine nature. But this path isn't just for visitors. It’s also vital for “bokkas”—professional carriers who shoulder loads over 100 kg to supply remote mountain lodges. These wooden trails are a shared lifeline, bearing the weight of both people and tradition. Over time, the boardwalk weathers and deteriorates, putting walkers at risk. In response, the bokkas launched the Oze Boardwalk Restoration Project, a grassroots effort to repair and maintain this essential route. One of these bokkas is also a seasonal sake brewer at Tsuchida Sake Brewery. Moved by his dedication, the brewery now donates a portion of sales from this sake to support the boardwalk restoration, connecting the craftsmanship of sake with the stewardship of nature. This sake helps protect the path—both for those who walk it and those who make it their way of life.
